I have a love-hate relationship with these boots. For one, I've had my pair for ten years, so any updates on the liner or sole have passed me by. They are rugged, last a long time, and really do keep your feet warm. My toes only have gotten cold with these when the temperatures are in the negative 15 range, and that may be because the liner is beginning to wear out. For the many days of warm feet, I am eternally grateful to Sorel. Also, they are so incredibly ugly that they're almost cool looking. When I'm stomping around town (Vermont) in these, I often look down and think, what the heck are those things attacking my feet??The downsides...the Caribou are difficult to walk in and are no good for winter hiking of any kind because they are incredibly bulky and tend to twist your ankle as you walk. These boots feel like they create an unnecessary workout and are too large to fit into my snowshoes. If you have weak ankles or tendinitis, you will want to avoid these. Also, if you prefer more arch support and like to use inserts such as Superfeet in your shoes and boots, you will not be able to do that with the Caribou.
I just bought a pair of Sorel Snow Drifts and couldn't believe how easy to walk in and lightweight they are in comparison to the Caribou. I love Sorels for their warmth, but I think that they make many other boots that are better for getting around in than the clunky Caribous.
